The first leg of the "do anything to be here" journey began at 12:10 am Monday, leaving Mocksville in a van with fellow travelrs Art, Don and Rob. It was dark and rainy, and scattered gunfire of New Year's revelers in Davie County accompanied our departure. We each took three-hour shifts of driving - mine was the 3:30 to 6:30 am shift, a dark-gray drizzly stretch through east Georgia, kept awake with the throbbing disco of the 70s station on satellite radio. We arrived at 1 p.m Monday, sunny and 80 degrees in Hollywood, Fla. , where it is flooded with Deacon fans.

Wow... what a weekend!! Three days of reunion, followed by a ball game that was incredible. The outcome obviously could've been better, but we have to remember that the team we lost to, was a field goal away from playing against Ohio State on the 8th. They were an incredibly physical team. I know I underestimated their speed on defense. They completely took us out of what we do best, run the ball and yet, somehow, the Deacons clawed their way to an early 4th quarter lead. It was truly a special weekend that I will never forget. I have been associated with Florida Gator football over the last 15 years with my father and I would have NEVER seen a fan base support the gators like the Deacon fans did at the end of the game. Yes, a few people left, but there were at least 2/3 of the deacon faithful cheering for a team that had just lost. We were louder than the Louisville crowd that had just won a B.C.S. game. If anyone missed that, it was truly a special moment and know that we did "represent"!! Better than we could ever have hoped. Better than the B.C.S. committee ever thought we could! Wake ROCKS!! Props to a few peeps from Theta Chi... Ted Best for transporting the grill all the way from W-S to Miami..to Mr. Boles for being the best chef EVER! to Gabba for being the great person he is and helping to get the alumni there! To George Adams for not getting arrested... More to come and lots of pics.. just gotta do a little work since I did NONE in December anticipating the game..
